Air Separator (Carbon) for HKS Air Cleaner
 
HKS air cleaners offer excellent intake efficiency and sound, but
one drawback is their tendency to draw in hot air from the engine bay. Therefore, we've installed an air separator that effectively utilizes the NC Roadster's features .
In addition to the original intake pipe, it also features a small duct under the ECU that allows direct intake of outside air . 　(The key is the rubber molding that fills the gap with the hood.) Because it's not a completely sealed type, it efficiently reduces the ambient temperature around the air cleaner and allows for a moderate exchange of fresh air. In particular, depending on engine demand, the intake air temperature drops more quickly than a sealed type. Made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, it's the perfect accent piece for the engine bay.
 
While installing an air separator improves functionality, it does introduce one problem:
the hood support brackets can no longer be properly retracted.
Cutting slits to accommodate them was one solution, but this resulted in
poor sealing of the upper section, where hot air accumulates, so this was abandoned.
In a similar situation, the NA/NB Roadsters had solutions such as making the brackets removable
, but the NC offers a smart solution by offering a low-cost hood damper.
